Photomarathon Sheffield

One city. Six hours.
Six photos… Go!

Photomarathon Sheffield is a photography adventure for all ages. An annual, one-day event, it encourages people to explore the city with curiosity, creativity and spontaneity. We created the Photomarathon as part of our mission to encourage people to see Sheffield in a new way.

The challenge: 6 hours to take 6 photos on 6 topics revealed on the day. No set route. No need to run, or even walk, fast.

We organise and run the event in association with Harrison Cameras, an independent family-run camera shop based in Sheffield since 1972. And, of course, we created the brand and all related materials. We also design the Photomarathon Sheffield exhibition.

Since 2016, we've organised four physical events and one virtual event showing life at the start of lockdown. Entrants have shared some truly poignant, imaginative and hilarious photographs of Sheffield. Amazing judges have included Nigel Barker, Theo Simpson, India Hobson and Chris Saunders.

In 2020 we published the Photomarathon Sheffield book. It’s a beautiful tribute to the city we love, and to the creativity of everyone who has taken part. Together these photos document five days, across five years, in the life of this lovely city – from 1,192 unique perspectives.

Since 2016, 1,192 people have taken part in Photomarathon Sheffield.

“Brilliant day. Saw Sheffield in a different light and discovered lots of new things.”
