The Children’s Hospital Charity

Making difficult days a bit brighter

The Children’s Hospital Charity commissioned us to create a series of artworks for consulting rooms in their beautiful new building.

As part of their Artfelt arts programme, the charity works with artists and designers to make hospital the best it can be. They’re all about creating bright surroundings that have a positive effect on the wellbeing of their patients, visitors and staff.

Creative approach

Having input from patients’ at the hospital was our priority. So to get them involved in the process from the get-go, we created a campaign: Draw, Write, Snap.

We printed postcards posing simple questions to find out what the hospital means to its young patients and their families. We distributed thousands of them around the hospital and across the city to include patients past and present. We also held workshops to collect people's stories, drawings and photographs.

Using the responses as our inspiration we created a set of abstract shapes, and we invited patients and staff to create compositions with the shapes on paper – our first time collaborating with people as young as two!

From there, we transformed the designs into 25 unique artworks, with custom-made wooden pegboards as a backdrop.

“We really loved the enthusiasm Eleven brought to this the project, and the extra thought given to consultation options with patients and their families.”
