Let us introduce Flat Bob, designed to
give a personality to Sheffield Hallam University’s
undergraduate student recruitment campaign. Our brief was to
generate interest in 16-17 year olds who were thinking about
going to university. In creating Bob we were able to do this in
a more visual way, showing him in student accommodation, in
lectures, and enjoying the social aspect of student life.
Bob formed a sub-brand for every piece of
undergraduate publicity including the initial mailer, the
prospectus, exhibition stand, carrier bags, a bookmark,
website, a blow-up man (don’t ask!), and various other
printed material.
Bob was a success for the university,
student applications were up and the campaign generated
interest with schools, students and the media.
